My Leadership Journey
From the moment I stepped into the insurance industry, I understood that leadership isn’t about titles or corner offices—it’s about navigating challenges with clarity, building trust, and delivering results. My career has been a journey of doing just that.
I began by learning the business from the ground up: underwriting, claims management, fraud investigation, and regulatory compliance. Those early experiences taught me that success lives in the details, and that every operational challenge is an opportunity to innovate.
As I advanced into executive leadership roles, I took those lessons with me. At The Covenant Group, I was tasked with transforming a struggling $73 million company. In just three years, we reversed a 196% loss ratio to an 82% combined ratio, reduced expenses, and positioned the company for acquisition. It wasn’t about flashy moves; it was about rolling up our sleeves, building operational efficiencies, and crafting strategies that stuck.
At AmTrust Financial, I built their Residual Market Division from zero to $174 million across 14 states. Leading multi-state teams and working directly with Departments of Insurance, I developed a reputation for delivering solutions that regulators trust and competitors respect. I spearheaded RFP strategies, managed complex M&A integrations, and designed industry-wide performance standards that are still in use today.
When the industry faced new challenges—like the shift to remote work—I was already ahead. I developed a work-from-home model with robust supervision and quality controls years before it became an industry necessity. It wasn’t about following trends; it was about foreseeing them.
Today, through William Malphurs Consulting, I partner with businesses that need more than just advice. They need a strategic partner who will stand alongside them, help navigate complexities, and execute strategies that drive growth.
